Wu, Amer, and Cao emerged successful in their races

The Residence Society (ResSoc) ran tight and contested executive races this year.

After voting for the 2024 ResSoc elections concluded on Feb. 1, the results were announced the morning of Feb. 3 in an email to candidates and The Journal. ResSoc saw 489 students cast their ballot, comprising approximately 10 per cent of the eligible voter population of students living in residence.

Allen Wu, HealthSci ’25, was elected the new ResSoc president in a contested election against Katarina Krivokapic, ArtSci ’26. Wu won with 254 votes, earning him 54.5 per cent of the vote.

“I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone for their . My friends, family, and past experiences have helped shape me to where I am today, and I am thankful for the vote of confidence and from the student residence community,” Wu wrote in a statement to The Journal.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Wu encouraged candidates who weren’t elected to know the results don’t lessen the significance of their contributions or potential to make a positive impact. He wishes for them to remain involved in ResSoc.

Jana Amer, HealthSci ’26, was voted in as the new ResSoc vice-president (residence operations) (VPRO), beating Haarini Suntharalingam, HealthSci ’26. Amer earned 224 votes, making up 57.3 per cent of the vote; while Suntharalingam won 167 votes, or 42.7 per cent.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who ed my campaign for vice-president (residence operations). The encouragement and enthusiasm I’ve received have been the foundation of our collective journey,” Amer wrote to The Journal.

Amer congratulated her opponent on her “sportsmanship, fairness, and kind-hearted spirit,” which she said she hopes to carry into her tenure as VPRO.

Grace Cao, HealthSci ’25, was elected vice-president (society operations) in an uncontested election. 89.3 per cent of voters said yes to her in a vote of confidence.

“I want to thank everyone who ed me during my campaign period and send my best wishes to the other candidates. I look forward to the projects/initiatives we will accomplish next year with the new team,” Cao wrote to The Journal.

Suntharalingam and Krivokapic didn’t provide statements to The Journal.
