Last night, the suspense finally came to an end for the three students running for the Concurrent Education Students Association (CESA) executive team.
The team, consisting of presidential candidate Anna Pfeiffer, vice-president (external) candidate Thea Pel and vice-presidential (internal) candidate Laura Sullivan, won a vote of confidence
with 250 out of 257 votes, or 95.28 per cent of the vote.
CESA president Mike Brinkworth said he was impressed with the voter turnout
this year.
“We had the highest turnout of any society, and that speaks to our ability to get people to the polls.” He said he’s also excited about the incoming team.
“We think they are great girls, they are very inclusive, they are dedicated and have all been on the council before,” he said. “Speaking personally for presidential candidate, Anna Pfeiffer, she ran our orientation last year and it was as flawless as you can get.”
The new executive’s plan for next year continues to impress, Brinkworth said.
“They have great ideas,” he said. “They’re not trying to do anything overly ambitious, growing on successes of the past and building on weaknesses.”
“One of their main focuses was inclusivity, making the office more inviting for students,” he said, adding that the team plans to initiate an anonymous forum on the CESA website to allow students to speak more freely about positives and negatives.
“I’m really excited about their whole idea of making CESA more accessible to students and especially through an anonymous forum,” Brinkworth said.
The news of the results was held anxiously from the winning team until near midnight, but when they finally got the call, they were “ecstatic.” “The thing is, we’re really excited to get started this year,” Pfeiffer said.
In the background, there were excited shrills.
“It feels great that a lot of the con-edies us in our adventure to become exec,” Pfeiffer said. “The three of us are really involved. We really do touch on all the different parts of Con-Ed. We tried to target the first years that don’t know us. We tried to get our message known.”
The team has solid plans for next year, she said.
“The three initiatives in our campaign really focused on creating an inclusive environment within our faculty and within Kingston,” Pfeiffer said.
Incoming vice-president (external) Thea Pel added, “We want to have open communication lines.”
Incoming vice president (internal) Laura Sullivan said she’s excited to begin her position.
“On behalf of the three of us, I want to thank you for the vote of confidence. We’re very excited for the year.”
