Curling swept out of OUA Curling Championship

The Queen’s men’s curling team ended its season on a low note at the OUA Curling Championship at Trent University in Peterborough last weekend.

The Gaels fell 7-4 to Western, 5-2 to Brock and 5-3 to Laurier to cap off a winless round robin.

Queen’s finished the season with an even 4-4 record.

Queen’s student to represent Canada in biathlon

Alexandre Dumond has been chosen to represent Canada as part of a 10-member biathlon team at the 24th Winter Universiade in Harbin, China.

Canada will participate in individual events ranging in distance from 10km to 20km, and will also take part in the mixed relay event.

The Universiade begins Feb. 18.

Two medals for track

Queen’s brought two medals, a silver and a bronze, from the 38th annual York University Open track meet in Toronto last weekend.

Joshua Potvin took second in the men’s 1,000 metre, recording a time of 2:32.61. Potvin helped the Gaels pick up their other medal, bronze in the 1,000 metre relay. He was ed by Michael Prime, Adrian Heller and Gordon Frenke.

The Gaels travel to Windsor next weekend to participate in the Windsor Team Challenge.

Swimmer off to nationals

The swimming team improved remarkably from last year’s OUA results, with both the men’s and women’s teams finishing in 9th place at the OUA Swimming Championships in Ottawa last weekend. In addition, men’s team captain Julian Chang will be participating in the CIS Championships at the University of British Columbia Feb. 19 to 21.

Every Queen’s swimmer set a season personal best, and multiple swimmers set lifetime personal best times. Fifteen Queen’s swimmers had top-16 finishes.
