Queen’s is reporting 57 active cases of COVID-19 off-campus as of Wednesday evening. The University’s case tracker is showing 21 new cases so far during the final week of winter term, April 5-11.
A total of 234 cases have been identified at Queen’s since Aug. 31, including 25 in residence buildings and 209 off-campus. The Queen’s community has ed for 23.7 per cent of all cases in the region since March 2020.
Students can book an appointment for asymptomatic testing at the Student Wellness Services (SWS) testing centre at Mitchell Hall, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Appointments can be booked by calling SWS at 613-533-2506; however, evening appointments—4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.—can also be booked through the online portal.
There are currently 89 active cases in the KFL&A region. Since the pandemic was declared last March, there have been 1,005 cases, including 125 confirmed variant of concern cases and one death.
As vaccine rollout continues, Queen’s lent the Richardson Stadium parking lot to a drive-through vaccination event Wednesday evening. The event was organized by primary care providers in the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) region.
Some local high school students volunteered to assist in directing traffic to the appropriate entrance for the clinic.
Queen’s told The Journal the clinic was part of a larger effort by primary care providers in KFL&A to vaccinate 500 people across the region in a three-hour period on Wednesday. Clinics were also offered in rural areas by family physician offices in those areas.
Three hundred doses were designated for istration at Richardson Stadium, with an additional 200 going to the rural clinics. All available slots for vaccination were claimed ahead of the event.
“As a community partner, Queen’s is pleased to KFL&A’s primary care providers’ efforts to fight COVID-19 by making the stadium parking area available for this immunization event,” the University wrote in a statement to The Journal.
