1. Who are you?
We are Kyra and Tully, a Kingston folk pop duo.
2. What do you do?
We play music inspired by nature, love, loss and spiritual searching.
3. Where can someone find you?
At the Sydenham Street United Church 89 Sydenham Street, Kingston at 7 p.m., Saturday Nov. 21 playing a show with Jenn Grant headlining. Bruce Cockburn will make a cameo appearance and Lake Ontario Waterkeeper is hosting this event. Tickets $12 advance available at the Queen’s Performing Arts, Brian’s Record Option, Zap Records, Tara Foods and $15 at the door-children under 12 free ission.
4. Where do you live and work and why?
We live in Kingston because we’ve both been here since we were kids and we’ve each tried to move away but Kingston keeps calling us back home. We have an amazing group of friends in this area.†Kyra works front of house at the Grand Theatre and with the Queen’s Performing Arts and Tully is a visual artist and works at the Sydenham Street United Church because we love the arts and beautiful places.
5. When did you start making music together?
Right after we met, we’d laugh and laugh and started collaborating on writing songs from the beginning, or adding occasional suggestions on each othersí songs.
6. How would you describe your music?
Kyra: Peaceful, spacial, meaningful, orchestral hints, melodic.
Tully: Folk pop.
7. What inspires you?
Kyra: Love and nature and animals, long roads and inner journeys.
Tully: People who I perceive to be exceptional at what they do.
8. Whatís the nicest things someone has said you to after a show?
Kyra: Your music is beautiful.
Tully: That was great.
9. Whatís the worst thing someone has said to you after a show?
Kyra: ìI couldn’t hear the words because the drums were too loud.î
Tully: ìThe keys were too high in the mix.î Itís good to know at the same time.
10. What are your current obsessions?
Kyra’s: Bears, publicity.
Tully: Running.
11. How do you keep your energy up while performing?
Kyra: By feeling the music and staying with it.
Tully: If there’s a good flow between the musicians the energy is already there.
12. When someone says ìKingstonî you thinkÖ
Kyra: Home.
Tully: I think of a lot of great people that we know and what creative forces they are.
13. If you could give any advice to yourself in hindsight when you were first starting out as a musician, what would you say?
Kyra: Don’t ever doubt the gifts you have been given.
Tully: Hit the road.
14. What are you currently working on?
Getting ready for our CD release.
