Soundtrack to a Coup D’Etat

For those who are into documentaries and history, then this event is for you. On Feb. 9, the Black Studies program is hosting a screening of Soundtrack to A Coup D’Etat at The Screening Room at 1 p.m.

After the assassination of Congo’s leader, Patrice Lumumba in 1961, a historical rollercoaster of political machination ignited. The documentary illustrates this political earthquake from witness s, testimonies, CIA operatives, speeches from Lumumba himself and a veritable canon of jazz icons. Director Johan Grimonprez tells a story that interrogates colonial history to tell an urgent and timely story of precedent that resonates more than ever in today’s geopolitical climate.

As part of an initiative for Black Histories and Futures Month, The Kingston Peace Council invites all to a post-screening discussion at the Toucan from 4 to 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity for you to engage in a post-movie chat with your peers.
