The Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) announced the opening of a new café in a press release and Instagram post on April 1.

Named Asips, ASUS’s new venture will open on May 1 in the ASUS house’s basement. It’s the brainchild of the 2020-21 ASUS executive and will be completely student-run, according to the press release. It’s branded as “your local ArtSci Café.”

“We have heard from students about the dire need for […] study and lounge spaces across campus particularly for Arts and Science students,” ASUS wrote in the press release.

The basement space was chosen due to limited space on campus, especially given the JDUC renovations. It s B+ service.

“While it may have a spooky reputation, we can assure you that this space is perfect to study, catch up with 12 of your closest friends, and grab a coffee or bite to eat,” ASUS wrote.

The “carefully curated” menu includes four items: Officers Oatmeal for $16, which is described as “thic oatmeal”; 183 Uni Soup for $11, which is like New England clam chowder; $15 Cha Gael Chip Pancakes that come with asbestos flavoured syrup; and slow-roasted Comissioners Coffee for $1.

“We are excited to the torch to the incoming executive to open up this student funded café this summer,” ASUS wrote.
