Ryan Gibb and Brady Morrison

Ryan Gibb and Brady Morrison, who together make up the Golden Gaels men’s hockey goaltending duo, were instrumental in the Gaels’ two victories over the Unversity Ottawa and Carleton University last weekend.
Gibb stopped all 44 shots he faced in a 2-0 shutout of the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Gibb emphasized the importance of winning to the team.
“Every game has to be a win,” he said. “The team is looking for first place.” Gibb has been steady so far this season with a 4-2-1 record and a .950 save percentage. His style has drawn praise from head coach Brett Gibson.
“Ryan plays square to the puck,” he said. “He wants pucks to him.” Rookie Brady Morrison made 37 saves on Saturday as Queen’s beat Carleton 5-1.
Morrison was solid in the first period as he kept the game in reach for the Gaels. Thus far this season Morrison has a 2-2-0 record to go along with his 2.17 goals against average. He attributes his success to the way the team has been playing.
“The forwards are working hard,” he said. “They’re keeping the pressure off of the defence.” Gibson said he’s very impressed with the way the two have performed, saying the Gaels have the best goaltending he has seen in the OUA.
Gibson said the embarrassment of riches is tough on both goalies, however. “They both want to start every game.”

Leslie Sexton
women’s cross country
Cross-country runner Leslie Sexton was spectacular at the CIS championships last weekend in Victoria, BC.
Sexton placed fifth overall in the women’s five-kilometre race and earned a spot on the All-Canadian Team.
Sexton described the race as her “best race of the season.” Her leadership helped the Gaels women’s team to a seventh-place overall finish.
Queen’s head coach Shane Lakins said he felt Sexton’s performance played a major role in the team’s result.
“You have the result part, and you also have the psychological part of having one member of your team that far up,” he said.
Sexton said she’s thrilled about the opportunity to run for Canada.
“It was a goal all season to make that team,” she said. “I’m really glad it all came together.” The World University Cross Country Championships will take place in , April 5 and 6, 2008.
Lakins, who will coach the Canadian team, said he felt relief and excitement over Sexton’s selection to the All-Canadian Team.
“She worked really hard for it.”
Sexton had a very successful season, including a third-place finish at the OUA finals and a second-place finish at the Western Invitational.
Lakins said he expects this is just the beginning of Sexton’s success as a runner.
“I hope this is just the start of her representing Canada,” he said. “She certainly has the ability.”
