The recent spike in theft in the Queen’s area continues as a young man was discovered breaking into Chernoff Hall Sunday evening.
“At approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday night, a man was found standing in an unlit, locked office,” David Patterson, director of Queen’s Campus Security, told the Journal. “When questioned by a staff member, the man fled the scene.”
When Campus Security arrived at the scene, they discovered five other offices had also been broken into that night. It is still unknown how the perpetrator entered the building.
According to the Campus Security alerts website, the man in question is suspected of being linked to several theft-related crimes that took place over the past weekend.
In addition to damage done to the office doors pried open by the intruder, several pieces of equipment were discovered to be missing, Patterson said. Among the stolen items are a laptop computer valued at $2,000, one central processing unit, one keyboard, and two flat screen monitors.
Authorities are looking for a black male in his early 20s with a shaved head, 5’10”-5’11” and weighing 180-185 lbs, Patterson said. The suspect was last seen carrying a black briefcase and wearing an earring and a three-quarter length black wool coat.
This incident follows several other break-ins and thefts reported in the Queen’s area over the past few weeks.
Other incidents include thefts in Stauffer Library and Mac-Corry Hall, and at least 25 break-ins at residences in the student ghetto.
