Fourteen Gaels capture top OUA and U SPORTS awards across the board

With multiple sports seasons wrapping up, the OUA and U SPORTS have unveiled their player and coaching awards, recognizing athletes for their dedication and achievements throughout the year in their respective sports.
The Men’s Basketball team played their final game of the season on March 14. The Gaels’ suffered their first tournament on March 13 in the quarterfinals, falling 98-109 to the Canada West champions, the Calgary Dinos.
The Gaels traveled to the nation’s capital on March 8, where they fell just short of becoming back-to-back OUA Champions, losing 87-95 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 87-95.
In a nail-biting semi-final, the Gaels crushed the Ridgebacks hopes to hoist the Wilson Cup, delivering a last-second heartbreak that sent Ontario Tech on a cold, long bus ride back to Oshawa, Ont.
The Queen’s Women’s Basketball team faced significant adversity on their road to the OUA playoffs this season.
The Men’s Basketball team clinched a spot in the OUA semifinals with a thrilling comeback, edging the 15-7 Carleton Ravens 86-83 on Feb. 22 at the ARC.
Queen’s Men’s Basketball travelled to Ottawa last weekend to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens on Feb. 5 and 6.

Gaels get swept in Guelph

The Women’s Basketball team spent the weekend in Ottawa, tipping off against the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Jan. 31 in a 53-60 loss, then playing against the top-ranked Carleton Ravens on Feb. 1, where they lost 63-72. To start the game, the Gaels capitalized on the Gee-Gee’s inability to shoot from beyond the arc, outscoring Ottawa 17-14 in the first frame. In the second quarter, the Gaels saw their lead disappear after being dominated by the Gee-Gees in the paint.
This past weekend, Queen’s Women’s Basketball hosted their annual U Sports Shoot for the Cure game against the Brock Badgers.
The Women’s Basketball team battled hard this weekend but lost their 12-game win streak against the TMU Bold, 56-58 on Jan. 24. Hopefully their win against the Brock Badgers on Jan. 25, 63-59, is the start of a new streak.
Last year’s Men’s Basketball team was nothing short of miraculous. Winning 11 straight games en route to winning a game-winning buzzer beater at Provincial Championships in the ARC and making it to the National Championship.

Gaels tread through Lakers

The Gaels looked to defend homecourt on Jan. 11 as the Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams welcomed the Nipissing Lakers to the Athletics and Recreation Centre for OUA regular season action.
Every time the Gaels hit the court, field, or ice, you’re guaranteed an exciting experience, whether through triumph or adversity. These must-see matchups come with high ticket demand and even higher stakes.
Coming into this year, there were plenty of question marks about how the Queen’s Men’s Basketball team would perform.
The entire bench came to play as the 6-1 Queen’s Gaels tipped off against the undefeated 8-0 Lakehead Thunderwolves at the ARC on Nov. 26.
