High stakes and historic rivalries await Queen’s Gaels this semester

Every time the Gaels hit the court, field, or ice, you’re guaranteed an exciting experience, whether through triumph or adversity. These must-see matchups come with high ticket demand and even higher stakes.
A pair of players from the Queen’s men’s hockey team have been selected to Head Coach of the Queen’s Men’s Hockey Team, Brett Gibson, and Team Canada at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games.
Similar to a previous Aidan’s Angle , where I drew comparisons between some of the players on the Gaels basketball teams and National Basketball Association stars, this edition of Aidan’s Angle will focus solely on Queen’s hockey and their professional counterparts.
The start of the 2024-25 year brought with it many memorable moments for the Gaels. From the ice to the field, this edition of Aidan’s Angle will present my top five sporting moments and performances of the fall semester.
Through the first 10 games of the 2024-25 OUA regular season, the Gaels have recorded an impressive eight wins and only two losses, defeating divisional rivals such as the Western Mustangs and Laurier Golden Hawks during this stretch.
After starting the season 4-0, the Gaels welcomed the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Oct. 18 and the Laurier Golden Hawks on Oct. 19 at the Memorial Centre, splitting the weekend with a loss to the Ridgebacks and a win over the Golden Hawks.
Significant changes were made to the Women’s and Men’s Varsity Basketball teams this offseason. From graduating players to fresh faces, this edition of Aidan’s Angle will provide feasible expectations for the Gaels for the 2024-25 season through a comparison with current NBA teams.
The Men’s Hockey team has lost its last three preseason games. While you might be inclined to write the season off, there’s no reason to panic just yet.
The National Hockey League is taking a closer look at U Sports talent, and two Gaels standouts are seizing the opportunity.
After two preseason exhibition games for the Men’s Hockey team, I figured it was time to provide a grading of sorts to the Gaels: and delving into where they might end up at the end of the season, and who might be the next star for the Gaels.
The Gaels Men’s Hockey team got off to a hot start in their first preseason game, hopefully setting the tone for the season.
It’s well-established that the revolving door of U SPORTS eligibility poses serious challenges for teams, requiring them to always stay one step ahead within their recruitment programs. Recently, however, it hasn’t been the athlete’s age that has forced them to depart from Queen’s, but higher opportunities south of the border.
Throughout this offseason, the Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams were challenged to fill the massive holes in vital roles left by graduating players on their respective rosters. Tracking roster changes can be challenging, so here’s a condensed list of players to watch this season.
With the Gaels’ OUA season well behind us and the Toronto Maple Leafs having lost their sixth consecutive game seven, there’s no better time to apply some of the lessons the Leafs have struggled to realize, or accept, to our men’s hockey team here at Queen’s.
