Queen’s will open a flu vaccine clinic on Monday to all students and faculty . The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Grant Hall.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health physician Dr. Kieran Moore said the University will receive about 2,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine.
“The vaccine has proven to be highly effective and will still offer protection for next year, when it’s expected to come back,” he said.
Moore said the virus has caused two deaths since appearing in Kingston in the first week of October.
Twenty people are currently hospitalized in Kingston with flu-like symptoms, he said.
“The volume of infected people is steadily decreasing,” he said.
Residence Life Director Elizabeth Leal Conrad said nobody in residence has been sent home but preventative measures, including awareness posters, sanitizing stations and extra cleaning measures, have been put in place.
The number of those infected in residence remain low, Leal Conrad said, adding that about one per cent of the total residence population has exhibited flu-like symptoms as of last week.
