Christine Wallace played fiercely in with the women’s basketball team’s 69-65 win over the Ryerson Rams on Saturday in the Gaels’ final game in Bartlett Gymnasium. Wallace finished with 16 points and made the final steal in the closing minutes of the game, allowing the Gaels to extend their winning streak to six.

The six-foot wing said she was thrilled with the game and the she and the team received from fans.

“It feels good to be able to contribute to the whole team,” she said. “The fans were obviously proud and it was good to see , it helps to make you want to play just as hard the next game. … Both my parents were there, they were really proud of me.”

Wallace said she’s pleased with how the team has been performing so far.

“We have a lot of potential to do well,” she said, “We’re 8-4 now, and we hope to keep going with that run and play as hard as we can.”

Wallace, a native of North Gower, Ont., said she’s always been a basketball player.

“I’ve been playing since I think around Grade five,” she said. “My parents put me into a hometown basketball league, and I’ve been playing ever since.”

Wallace plans to go to teacher’s college after graduation, but hasn’t been focusing on finding a way to keep basketball in her life.

“I haven’t really put a whole lot of thought into it,” she confessed, “I’m just going to enjoy what I’m doing now, and we’ll see when the future comes.”
