Gaels post strong showings in three events

Over 280 fencers competed in the 30th annual Queen’s Invitational Fencing Tournament, held Oct. 14-15.

Queen’s top results came in the foil competition.

Nicole See-Too earned a fifth-place finish in a field of 49 fencers in the women’s foil and Ashley Chin placed 16th in the same event. Ryan Nelson placed seventh out of 56 entrants in the men’s foil.

Nelson also performed well in the men’s sabre competition, placing 10th out of 58 people.

Sabre captain Greg Nonato finished 12th. In the women’s sabre competition Morgan Marchand and Joanne Ko finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in a field of 42.

Sydney Houston-Goudge, in her first tournament with the Queen’s team, finished 21st out of 37 entrants in the women’s epee.

The teams are preparing for the Royal Military College Invitational, which will be held on Nov. 4-5.
