Friday’s game will pit the OUA East’s current number one and number two seeds, the Queen’s Gaels and the Brock Badgers, against each other for sole possession of first place in the division. The Gaels currently have 16 points, with three wins and a tie, while the Badgers have 14 points with three wins and a loss.
The outcome of this final regular season game will spell out the final placement of the regular season, and give an idea of the playoff run to come.
Richardson said his team was working on matching Brock’s intensity in preparation for the Gaels’ biggest game of the season.
“We always know they come out intense,” he said. “They look forward to playing us and they come out hard. We’re working on coming out with the same intensity that they do.”
He said the Gaels will be expecting Brock to play in a similar manner to Western and McMaster, mixing elements of strength and speed in their play.
“They’re a good team, they’ll have finesse and power,” he said. “They have big guys, hard hitters, hard tacklers and hard runners. They’re not one dimensional.”
Head coach Peter Huigenbos said that the Gaels are going back to basics in preparation for Brock.
“We’ve been concentrating on fundamentals,” he said. “We know we’re getting ready for an intense game of rugby. They beat us last year in the final so we want to correct our mistakes and do a lot better this time around.”
Huigenbos said he was expecting Brock to give them a difficult game tomorrow.
“Out of Brock you expect hard hitting, hard working boys who play for each other,” he said. “They never stop hitting, they never stop coming at you. They’re a complete team.”
The Gaels will kick off against the Badgers Friday at 2pm at Kingston Field.
