
Women’s Basketball
• The Gaels visited the East Coast for the Saint Mary’s Tournament from Dec. 29 to 31. The team lost their opening game 63-50 to the University of New Brunswick. They rebounded to win their second game against the Acadia Axewomen 54-49. They then fell to the Cape Breton Capers 57-46 to round out the tournament with a 1-2 record. Queen’s was led by captain Claire Meadows, who scored 10 points in each contest, and Jessica Sellinger, who also provided scoring punch posting 10 points in the first game and 18 in the final contest.
Men’s Hockey
• The team had a busy holiday break, playing three exhibition matches and two regular season contests. The Gaels first played in the third annual Montreal University Cup in Pierrefonds, Que. They lost both games, 4-2 to the McGill Redmen and 4-1 to the Waterloo Warriors. On Jan. 2, Queen’s lost their final exhibition game 6-3 to the Quinnipiac Bobcats when they visited Northfield, Connecticut. Three days later, Queen’s and goaltender Matt Kenney were given a rough ride by the Western Mustangs, falling 8-3. Kenney was responsible for seven of the goals in 48 minutes, and Chris Hall made his CIS debut the rest of the way, allowing a single goal on five shots. However, Kenney rebounded well two nights later, posting a 31-save shutout in a 1-0 win over RMC. Brady Olsen scored the lone marker for the Gaels, who now stand at 5-11-1 on the season.
