Students running for Queen’s Rector, AMS executive or groups with a fee going up for referendum now have until Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. to secure nominations, according to a statement on the AMS Instagram .
Students considering a run for an executive AMS position or looking to change a student fee require more than 204 signatures to be on the ballot. Students running for Rector require upwards of 281 student signatures. After securing the required number of signatures and sending them to the AMS Chief Electoral Officer, students become AMS executive candidates.
During the nomination period, groups and students shouldn’t be campaigning for their platform or fee, the AMS Instagram statement said. The intention behind receiving student signatures as nominations is solely to notify students candidates are intending on running for a position, or changing or establishing a student fee.
When students sign a nomination form, it doesn’t count as a vote towards that candidate or cause.
Multiple positions in the SGPS elections are vacant, with no declared candidates or students running uncontested, the nomination period ends on Jan. 22 at 4:00 p.m.
The SGPS positions of Vice-President (Community) and Vice-President (Finance) still require candidates.
