Love was in the air as the close knit group of MAP volunteers and friends banded together in huddle formation to their team after hearing of its defeat.
It was almost 3:00 a.m. when campaign manager Laura Wilson got the call everyone was waiting for.
The look of disappointment of Wilson’s face conveyed what words couldn’t.
“Fifty-one per cent CYZ, 45 per cent MAP, two per cent spoiled,” she said.
This capped off a night filled with enthusiasm and optimism.
Vice-president (operations) candidate Ellen Allwright’s house felt more like a club than campaign headquarters as attendees danced to the beats of DJs Ban and White Rice.
The song of choice was the team’s self-declared theme song “Let it Rock.”
Despite his team’s loss, presidential candidate Colin McLeod remained composed and thanked his dedicated group of volunteers for their .
“We couldn’t have done this without our volunteers. Their dedication and ion for what we’ve stood for has been tremendous. I’m overwhelmed at this point.”
McLeod said he felt his team maintained its integrity throughout the 10-day campaign.
“I’m just proud of the way we did this. We are still the same people that we were going into this campaign and it was well worth it. It was a life changing experience.”
