MCRC President wins second term

Koichopolos to work with opponents

Michael Koichopolos won a second term as Main Campus Residence Council (MCRC) president last night, after receiving 59 per cent of the vote with teammates Meika Matthews, VP (residence affairs) and Eric Grigg, VP (discipline).

“As incumbent, I’m very happy with the voter turnout, and also very happy to have a plan going forward in which students know what they voted for,” he said as he celebrated his win at Koichopolos’ room in Leonard Hall with Matthews and Grigg.

Alexis Meyerman-Boyer, MCRC chief returning officer, said 1,095 students turned out to vote out of a possible 2,800 eligible voters.

KMG’s opponents DSB received 36 per cent. Five per cent of ballots were spoiled. Team DSB—Presidential candidate Dominic Fok, Vice-President (Resident Affairs) candidate Susan Zhu and Vice-President (Discipline) candidate Ben Campbell—is looking forward to staying involved with the organization, despite their loss.

“Just because we weren’t elected into office doesn’t mean we can’t make contributions,” said Susan Zhu, who was running for VP (residence affairs).

Koichopolos said he’s looking forward to discussing ways to improve MCRC’s efficiency by talking with Team DSB.

“I can’t wait to talk to the other team about their platform, and what we can implement in the coming year,” he said.

“We’re excited because we ran on a platform that sets a framework for the organization,” he said. “We’re excited to have a clear mandate that was ed by students in residence.”

Matthews was quick to acknowledge the people who helped them throughout their campaign.

“We couldn’t have done it without the great help of our volunteers.”

Last year, Koichopolos was the presidential candidate of Team KHL, who won the election with 50 per cent of votes.
