The men’s hockey team will fight to keep their dying playoff hopes alive tonight at Jock Harty Arena at 7 p.m. in the historic Carr-Harris Cup against RMC. Queen’s needs a win and two U of T losses to Ryerson next weekend to qualify for the playoffs. Queen’s sits one point behind U of T in the standings with one game remaining.
A tie in the standings would not help the Gaels as they lost the head-to-head series against the Blues in the regular season. RMC, who have already made the playoffs, are hoping to secure a better seeding with a win to end the season. Both teams will be trying to snap out of slumps, with the Paladins having lost their last three games and the Gaels riding a five-game losing streak and coming off back-to-back 8-0 losses. Despite a five-point gap between the two teams in the overall standings, their season series is even at 1-1-1.
This will be the 120th installment of the Cup, making it the world’s oldest university hockey rivalry. The inaugural version was played on the harbour ice in 1886 and is the first recorded hockey game in Kingston. Since being renamed the Carr-Harris Cup in 1986, Queen’s has had the advantage, going 11-7-1 and winning five out of their last eight meetings.
ission for Queen’s and RMC students is free with a student card. Adult tickets are $6.00, children (5-12) pay $4.00, and children younger than five are also free. The game will be broadcast live on CFRC radio (101.9 FM).
