Temperatures are dropping, and assignments are piling up—so if you’re wondering where I’ll be over the next few weeks, look no further than my bed, my couch, or somewhere bundled up in between.
Just because I’m going full hermit, doesn’t mean I can’t share my latest favourites. Whether you’re knee-deep in papers, or drifting into your fourth nap of the day, here are some cozy recommendations just for you.
Watch
My Old Ass, the latest Amazon Prime Original from writer-director Megan Park, is a perfect blend of heartwarming moments, humour, and nostalgia.
Starring Aubrey Plaza alongside her Gen-Z counterpart Maisy Stella, the movie follows Elliott (Stella), a Muskoka teen preparing for a big move to Toronto. During a mushroom trip with friends, Elliott encounters her older self (Plaza), who shares helpful, albeit confusing advice. Somehow, the two exchange phone numbers and continue to stay in touch—even after Elliott’s high fades.
The film was a delightful surprise; the warm Muskoka summer feeling and the dry, sarcastic humour made it the ideal pick for a couch-rot evening in.
Read
In my humble opinion—as an English major, mind you—Dolly Alderton’s Ghosts deserves a spot in every university curriculum.
The story follows Nina Dean, a food writer navigating her early 30s with wit, insight, and a refreshing dose of cynicism. As Nina grapples with modern dating, friendship shifts, and family changes, Alderton captures the often-overlooked complexities of adulthood.
Ghosts is a book I couldn’t, and wouldn’t, put down. If you’re after a read that will keep you under the covers, glued to the pages for hours, this is the pick for you.
Listen
I was lucky enough to attend Kacey Musgraves’ Deeper Well Tour last week, and it has completely re-ignited my love for her music.
Her new album, Deeper Well, has become an instant favourite, with tracks like “Anime Eyes,” “The Architect,” and “Cardinal,” on constant repeat for me. As a longtime fan, having seen her open for Katy Perry at just eight years old, I feel this album is her most mature and resonant work yet.
Whether I’m relaxing at home, studying at Stauffer, or taking a stroll by the pier, Deeper Well has been pouring through my headphones. It’s the kind of album that makes any moment feel cinematic, drawing you into its warmth and reflective depth every time.
Wear
Even with the unusually warm weather, there’s no denying that winter is on its way. If you’re unsure what to wear in this tricky in-between season, I highly recommend a giant scarf. Not only do they add the perfect pop of colour to any study groutfit, but they’re also great for keeping the biting chill at bay.
Right now, I’ve got my eye on these oversized scarves: Aritizia’s Wool Twist Fringe Scarf, Urban Outfitters’ Plaid Woven Oversized Scarf, and Gap’s Chunky Scarf—on sale now. Stay warm and stylish y’all!
Visit
With highly anticipated movies like Wicked and We Live In Time hitting the big screens this month, it’s the perfect excuse for a trip to the cinema.
Instead of heading to Landmark or Cineplex, make your way downtown to Kingston’s very own The Screening Room. This local theatre has all the right vibes—whether it’s a comfy date night, a solo cry session, a pre-exam de-stress outing with friends, or anything in between. The intimate setting makes The Screening Room the ideal place to escape the weather and take in the latest blockbusters.
