PHEKSA announces election candidates

The Physical Health Education and Kinesiology Student Association (PHEKSA) faces a slate of acclamations in its elections: vice-president (university affairs) is the only contested position, with two candidates.

Snaige Jogi, Phe ’09, is running for president, Stacie Carey, Phe ’09, is running for vice-president (operations) and Matt Jackson, Kin ’10, is running for commissioner of communications. Bri Botsford, Phe ’09, and Elayne Vlahaki, Phe ’09, are running for vice-president (university affairs).

Jogi, Carey, Jackson and Vlahaki didn’t return the Journal’s e-mails by press time.

Voting will take place Wednesday, Feb. 13 and Thursday, Feb. 14 in the upper level of the PEC.

Botsford said she wants to ensure all Kinesiology students are adequately represented at AMS assembly. Botsford said she believes her extensive AMS background will make her successful in the job.

She started in second year as a Student Constable and now works as human resources manager at TAPS.

Botsford believes her previous experience at TAPS has prepared her well for the role of vice-president (university affairs). “Being a manager teaches you how to work on a team, balance scheduling, maintaining relations with other people and ensuring that everyone is doing their job.” Botsford said she contemplated applying for other AMS positions this year until she decided she wanted to focus her energy on a close-knit community. “I’m interested in making an impact on a small arena,” she said. “I want to focus my energy into a faculty organization.”
