AMS Sustainability Position Created
The motion to approve the creation of the new sustainability coordinator for the 2006-07 fiscal year was ed at AMS Assembly last Thursday night.
Jennifer Holub, social issues commissioner, moved the motion and said she was extremely happy about the outcome.
“It is an initiative that, for the AMS, is long overdue at Queen’s,” she said. “It is our responsibility to make sure that we are [sustainable].”
According to an appendix provided with the motion, the position will “facilitate and enhance the environmental involvement within the AMS and the Queen’s community as a whole.” The position will begin on May 1, 2006 and end on April 30, 2007 and will be full time during the summer and part time during the school year. The sustainability coordinator will report to the vice president (university affairs) and the vice president (operations). The salary of the position will be determined by the AMS Management Committee next week. Holub estimated the salary would be around $10,000.
