The search for a new dean of Arts and Science has been narrowed down to two potential candidates.

Patrick Deane, vice principal (academic), confirmed in an e-mail on Dec. 5 that the Advisory Committee has shortlisted two individuals, Dr. Lesley Cormack and Dr. Alistair MacLean.

Cormack hails from the University of Alberta, where she is a professor and the chair of the department of history and classics. MacLean is currently an vice-dean for the faculty of Arts and Science.

The current dean of Arts and Science, Bob Silverman, will have served two five-year when he leaves his position in June 2006.

Silverman told the Journal he is leaving to pursue personal projects and research.

Currently, both candidates are meeting with the University community during a series of scheduled dates.

Deane invites comments and regarding the candidates, which he asks be sent to him in writing on or before noon on Jan. 19.  He can be e-mailed at [email protected]. In their review of the candidates, the of an Advisory Committee will consider all information available to them as they before forwarding their recommendations to the Principal.

Dr. Cormack met with students on Monday, however interested students can meet Dr. MacLean Jan. 17.
