After a four-year hiatus, Queen’s Pub is set to re-open with returning events and a revamped menu.
Prior to the closure in 2020 due to COVID-19, the AMS Pub Services (TAPS) managed two AMS services: The Underground, a traditional nightclub, and the Queen’s Pub (QP), a bar. While The Underground won’t be reopening, QP is set for a comeback, although no official opening date has been announced yet. QP will be located in the JDUC, which has seen multiple delays in its revitalization plan since the project broke ground in 2022.

Hiring is still underway at QP, for both supervisor and staff positions. In total, QP has hired two permanent staff and is looking to hire three student managers, five student supervisors, and approximately 90 other student staff who will be bartenders, servers, and greeters, according to the AMS.

“Setting the staff up for success and prioritizing the safety of students are two key components of an important re-opening,” Samantha Barton, QP head manager and Ayan Chowdhury, vice-president (operations) wrote in a statement to The Journal. “With the additional time permitted to plan staff training due to the JDUC construction delay, the pub team feels confident they can effectively train staff who we hope will embrace the challenges of opening a new restaurant and ensure they are knowledgeable of alcohol consumption standards.”
Barton and Chowdhury expressed their enthusiasm for the pub’s potential as a communal space. They’re most excited to see students come in throughout the day, whether they’re grabbing a quick bite between classes, enjoying a meal with their friends, or just coming for a drink. They both noted there’s considerable excitement about the job and the learning opportunities it will provide.
“The pub will be a social, inclusive environment for students to unwind and it will hopefully instill a sense of school pride. The opportunity to provide our students over 80 job positions and numerous learning opportunities alongside a social, inclusive environment is what I look forward to most,” the pair said.
The AMS emphasized its dedication to offering a wider variety of high-quality food options, noting all dishes will be crafted in their new “state-of-the-art” kitchen. The menu will feature familiar favourites like nachos and crispy chicken wings, as well as exciting new items such as butter chicken poutine.
According to the AMS, all of QP’s chicken is halal and vegetarian options are also available. As for drinks, the AMS outlined there will be a diverse selection, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options provided.
QP is set to bring back beloved events, including streaming nights for The Bachelor, trivia competitions, and watch parties for sporting events. The venue will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
