Fencing places third at RMC

Queen’s fencing team finished third in the quest for the Royal Military College Cup at the RMC Invitational last weekend, behind only the University of Toronto and RMC. Ten of the universities in attendance competed for the cup by entering teams in each of the six weapon categories, but several other schools and clubs competed as well. Four of Queen’s six “A” teams finished in the top eight in their categories, with women’s foil placing sixth and men’s foil, men’s épée and women’s sabre all placing seventh. The women’s épée and men’s sabre teams both finished tenth. The team continues their season this weekend at the Brock Invitational in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Wrestling picks up fifth medal

The wrestling team earned their its medal of the season at the McMaster Invitational last weekend. Joel Smith earned bronze in the men’s 54-kilogram division last Saturday. The team also picked up four medals in their season-opening tournament at Concordia University on Oct. 26, with Smith earning another bronze in the men’s 57-kilogram division, Kyle Smith winning bronze in the men’s 52-kilogram division, Katie Strang taking silver in the women’s 67-kilogram division and Kellie Heney earning silver in the women’s 52-kilogram division. They’ll continue their season tomorrow at the Toronto Open.
