Queen’s fencers on point at nationals
Four Queen’s fencers competed in the National Fencing Championships in Montreal from June 26 to 29. Katie Porter, a member of Queen’s Advanced Fencing Program, finished seventh in women’s sabre at the cadet level, eighth at the junior level and 25th at the senior level. Kristina Han also competed in the senior women’s sabre event, finishing 23rd. Other Queen’s fencers were Christian Petrozza, who competed in the senior men’s foil event, and Joanne Ko, who competed in the senior women’s épée.

Herman places sixth at U.S. Nationals
Queen’s rower Katya Herman finished sixth in the women’s lightweight single event at the 2008 USRowing National Championships at Mercer Lake, New Jersey. Herman finished with a time of 8.10.246, 13 seconds behind the winner Catherine Infantino of Boston.

Vanier Cup winner dies at 63
Former Gaels’ fullback Ron Clark, a key member of Queen’s first Vanier Cup-winning team died on Wednesday, June 25 at the age of 63. He played for the Gaels for five years from 1965-1969.
Clark was part of the Gaels’ success in the late sixties, helping the team to two Yates Cup victories, in 1966 and 1968. He was also part of Queen’s first Vanier Cup-winning team, who beat Waterloo Lutheran (now the University of Waterloo) in 1968 to claim Canadian university football’s national trophy.

NCAA teams come to Kingston
From August 25 to 31, three NCAA basketball teams will play exhibition games against the men’s basketball team. The series starts Monday, Aug 25, when Queen’s will face the Division I Northeastern University Huskies at 7 p.m. On Thursday, August 28, Queen’s will host the Division III Anderson University Ravens at 6 p.m. The series concludes at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug 31 with a game against the Division I State University of New York at Buffalo Bulls. All games take place in Bartlett Gym inside the Physical Education Centre.
