Twelve Gaels rowers nationally carded
Rowers Simon Gowdy, Morgan Jarvis, Ryan Meyers, Isolda Penney, Buzzy McCord, Mike Wilkinson, Rob Ballard, Josh Metcalfe, Katya Herman, Alex Meiklejohn, Rares Crisan and Amber Cuthbertson have been carded by Rowing Canada.
This carding means that Rowing Canada will help subsidize the rowers as they continue to compete at high levels. There are A, B, C and Development-level carding. A development card is worth $900/month, and an A-card, which means top-6 in the world, can be worth between $15,000-$20,000/year.

Armitage scoops Coach of the Month award
Rowing head coach John Armitage was named the January Coach of the Month by the Coaching Association of Ontario.
Armitage has been coaching rowing at Queen’s since 1977, the same year he co-founded the Kingston Rowing club. In that time, he has coached 18 nationally-carded rowers.
“The award is not so much a personal accomplishment so much as recognition for everything we’ve accomplished as a team at Queen’s,” he said. “It reflects well on our assistant coaches.”
