Women’s volleyball suffer winless weekend
The women’s volleyball team returned home empty-handed from their weekend road trip to Hamilton and Waterloo, dropping both of their games to the McMaster Marauders and Waterloo Warriors.
On Friday night the Gaels lost a four-set match at the hands of the Marauders. Outside hitter Elyssa Heller led the team with eleven kills and six digs while setter Kristin Collins racked up 21 assists over the course of the evening.
The next day, the team traveled to take on the Waterloo Warriors. Despite taking the game to a fifth set, they were unable to come away with a victory.
The team now sits with a record of 2-4, good for four points and a fourth place standing in the OUA East. The team will host the Royal Military College Paladins on Friday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at Bartlett Gym.

Men’s volleyball split weekend
The men’s volleyball team lost their first game of the season last weekend, returning home from their two game road trip with a win over the Waterloo Warriors and a loss to the rival McMaster Marauders.
The Gaels traveled to Hamilton to face the Marauders on Friday but were unable to get anything going as they fell in three sets. Joren Zeeman paced the Tricolour offensively with 12 kills and two aces in the match.
On Saturday against the Warriors it looked like the trend would continue as the Gaels dropped their first set 25-13. But the team rallied to win the next three sets and take the match. Zeeman continued his strong weekend, adding another 20 kills.
Queen’s now sits second in the OUA with a 5-1 record. This weekend they will visit the Western Mustangs and the Windsor Lancers.

Women’s hockey suffer season’s first loss
Last weekend, the women’s hockey team lost 2-0 in a clash of OUA leaders against the second-ranked Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks before rebounding with a 5-4 shootout win over the Waterloo Warriors the next day.
Against Laurier, rookie goaltender Mel Dodds-Moher stopped 38 of Laurier’s 40 shots, but the offense couldn’t find the back of the net in the loss.
Queen’s fell back 3-1 after one period of play in Waterloo, but battled back to tie the game and win it in a shootout. Forwards Brittany and Morgan McHaffie, Kelsey Thomson and Elizabeth Kench all scored in regulation time and Thomson, Becky Conroy and Michelle Hunt scored on all three Gaels shootout attempts to secure the victory.
The weekend’s results move Queen’s record to 6-1-1, good for second place in the OUA. Next weekend the Gaels host the York Lions and the University of Toronto Blues at the Memorial Centre.

Men’s hockey dropped by UQTR
The men’s hockey team gave the first-placed Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes a run for their money on the road last weekend in a 4-3 loss.
The Gaels entered the third period down 3-1, but fought back to tie the game. A tripping penalty with five minutes remaining would prove costly, though, as it gave way to a UQTR power-play goal to clinch the game.
Forward Payton Liske notched two goals for Queen’s in the loss. Stephane Chabot added the other tally. Goaltender Mackenzie Ball turned away 27 Patriotes shots.
Queen’s now has a record of 3-4 and sit eighth in the OUA East. The team has a busy week coming up with a Wednesday evening game at the rival Royal Military College Paladins and games against the York Lions and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks on the weekend.
