Queen’s athletes shine hosting cross-country Invitational
Queen’s hosted its largest-ever cross-country invitational race this weekend and reached the podium in both men’s and women’s races.
The challenging course at Fort Henry Hill provided the competitors with uncharacteristically calm weather, and the teams from 13 schools posted exceptional times.
The women’s team, led by 13th-place Patricia Roney in the five-kilometre event, placed third behind Guelph University and McMaster University, the country’s top-ranked teams. Not to be outdone, the men were led to a second-place team finish by sophomore Clay Patterson, who raced a personal best 32:42.7 in the 10 kilometre event, earning eighth place overall.

Ultimate frisbee team flies in national championships
The Queen’s ultimate frisbee team competed this weekend in the annual Canadian University Ultimate Championship and emerged victorious.
The men’s team went undefeated in four games, defeating the University of British Columbia Thuderbirds 12-6, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees 14-6, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 15-7 and the Université du Québec à Montréal Carabins 12-11.
Queen’s has won the tournament four times in the last six years.

Field hockey drops two in Toronto
The field hockey team played two regular-season games in Toronto this weekend, but was unable to come away with a win.
The Gaels were shut out 4-0 in their first game by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.
Later in the day, the Gaels faced the York University Lions, dropping the game 4-1.
With an overall record of 2-9-2, the Gaels have yet to win an away game. Seventh in the OUA, the Gaels play the third-place Waterloo Warriors next weekend in their final regular-season game. —Andrew Cameron
Queen’s rowers race through rain and snow in Boston
The Queen’s rowing crews competed this weekend at the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, a prestigious regatta that dates back to 1965.
With crews competing in the club, collegiate, lightweight and championship divisions, Queen’s rowers faced stiff competition and challenging conditions.
The lightweight women’s eight placed seventh with a time of 18:36.97 and the collegiate women’s eight finished seventh with a time of 18:29.76.

Sailors take bronze in New York
The Queen’s sailing team competed in the Greater New York Dinghy Regatta last weekend in New York City, hosted by Fordham University.
Gaels sailors Matt Sullivan, Lauren Avery and Roby Douglas placed third in the overall rankings, beating out crews from Columbia University, Princeton University and West Point Military Academy.

Men’s rugby demolish Brock for seventh-straight win
The men’s rugby team added another notch to their belt with a 36-3 shellacking of the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines.
Centre Ryan Kruyne led the Gaels charge with 12 points, keeping him first in the province for points with 82. Winger Scott Kyle, flanker Pat Richardson, scrum-half Liam Underwood and centre Graeme Whyte added tries to complete the rout.
Queen’s will close its regular season on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Kingston Field.
