T-minus one month until the semester ends, and we at The Journal have so much to look forward to. In case you’re wondering what our summer plans are, here’s a glimpse of what we have in store.

When this semester ends, I’m excited to go back to Toronto and start watching Blue Jays games. Going to the Rogers Centre has been a core part of my summer since I was a child, and now that I’ve grown up a bit, lining up hours before the games with my friends on bobblehead days has become my favourite part of the summer. I hope to see some of you there!

Rumour has it as a Queen’s student, you’re obliged to experience at least one summer in Kingston, and I guess my time has come. Despite my obligation to be on campus due to my new Editor in Chief responsibilities, I’m eagerly awaiting the warmer months ahead. Although I’ll be working, I’ve carved out pockets of time for travel with both family and friends.

I’m looking forward to finally being able to make use of the Pier, going out in the Hub without the burden of a winter jacket, and most notably, setting up shop in my new office in The Journal house. While my student-house lacks air conditioning, it’s a small inconvenience in the grand scheme of my much anticipated first Kingston summer.

At the end of April, I’m going on a five-week road trip around the East Coast in my parents’ van. One of my oldest friends from home is flying out to me for the first couple weeks, and my boyfriend is meeting me in Newfoundland for a week near the end of the trip. I’ve been wanting to go to the East Coast since I moved to Kingston five years ago, so I’m excited to finally be doing it!

In early September (that’s still summer, right?), my cousin is getting married in Nanaimo, BC, and I’m a bridesmaid. I’m going to Nanaimo for the wedding, then spending a week in Ucluelet afterwards. I can’t wait to spend time with my extended family in Nanaimo and watch my cousinwho’s more like a sister to meget married. I’m super excited to enjoy the outdoor scene in Ucluelet—particularly the surfing and hiking. I’ve never surfed in Canada before, so hopefully I’ll catch some gnarly Canadian waves.

I’m not a very outdoorsy person, but this summer I’m excited to finally venture outside the confines of my mom’s house. With this being my first Kingston summer, I look forward to finally being able to swim at the Pier without worrying about getting hypothermia. The likelihood of me dipping my toes in the water is very slim, but I’ll take full advantage of the nice weather and picturesque scenery to hit my summer reading goal.

Some things I’m looking forward to this summer are trying new recipes, binge watching K-Dramas, hanging out with my friends, and taking care of my plants. I hope to go to a concert this summerit’s been on my list forever. I plan to catch up on my reading, I have some books I had to put on hold because of school I’d really like to get to. I also want to get into some new hobbiesmaybe pottery, crocheting, or jewelry making.

Above all, the one thing I’m most excited for is getting more than four hours of sleep a day. I don’t know how I survived but I’m so excited for my sleep-deprived, energy drink-powered phase to be over.
