A student is facing a drug trafficking charge after Kingston Police executed a search at a house in the University Avenue area on Oct. 7.
The student will appear in court in mid-November to face the charge.
“Upon executing a search, [police] seized a quarter pound [of marijuana] packaged in a variety of weights and ready for sale,” said Constable Craig Sharpe of Kingston Police’s Intelligence Unit.
Police also seized Canadian currency amounting to $3,000, he said.
Sharpe said the student is facing charges because of the amount of drugs seized.
“In police , he is selling marijuana to customers, he is selling marijuana for profit,” he said.
“This is really a charge [of] possession for the purpose of trafficking, [due to] the amount of marijuana … in their possession and the fact that he was selling it. The typical only has a small amount of marijuana on their person to smoke.”
Shape said the student, who hasn’t sworn to the charges in court, could not be identified as yet.
He added as the student isn’t a Canadian citizen and because he has no criminal record, he was released from custody.
